Living on the edge of darkness,
Looking skywards,
No moon tonight,
An audible gasp as my eyes adjust.
The inky greyness barely visible
for the myriads of stars,
Filling the veil.
I feel their fizz!
Their energy ricochets,
My body in palpable awe.
My senses, firing tingles
with each sparkle noticed.
Captured in this moment,
I freeze.
Some shimmer a rainbow aura,
A cluster of tiny diamonds specks,
A Great Hunter spotted,
His sword and belt gleaming proudly,
Cassiopeia showed herself too,
And the North Star, near the Plough,
Guiding us home.
Transfixed on the silvery speckles,
A streak of starlight catches my attention,
And another,
And another!
Shooting stars, rocketing,
Displaying magnificence in a sky
Full of superlatives.
I look on, knowingly,
through my ancestor’s eyes.
A connection felt, shivers of joy
from the darkness of lands long ago.
I close my eyes, full of glistening twinkles.
“Hold onto this moment and remember”,
I whisper.
