The Circle
Just a joined up line
No sharp corners to harm
Not really knowing
Where it starts or where it ends
Just a joined up line
That can roll itself off the page
Not understanding its significance
And power to bring change
But you can circle around the world
Discover land and seas and skies
Watch ripples in a pond
Splaying outwards, stillness into lines
Your circle of friends
Held close to your heart
And the power of the sisterhood circle
Helps you reach for the stars
When the circle of life draws to a close
Reflect on what has been
See that you’ve come full circle
You wish your life complete
Look closely at the circle, what do you see?
I have always been fascinated by the geometry of nature and the mathematics of its construction. I particularly love the way circles and spheres show up. I marvel at flora like thistles, whose circular form shows equality of the parts to make the whole in such a way it needs praise not vilification.
Then, there are the creature made circles. It is not surprising that the nest with its sharp twigs interwoven with soft moss and feathers forms a perfect circle to nurture and cocoon the young.
I have been part of many circles in my lifetime. In a previous career path I have conducted many a “Circle Time” with children in my class where patience, tolerance for other voices and ideas generated is a wonderous thing to witness from such youthful minds. I am part of many writing circles whose magic makes my writing flow in ways that do not seem possible as a solitary writer. I have facilitated drum circles and have witnessed the palpable atmosphere that is created when we intertwine our beat.
Circle gatherers
Gathering in a circle is not a new phenomenon, it is millennia old, it is embedded in our genetic material. Long ago we sat around fire pits and made ourselves familiar through expression. Now we sit in rows, on the edges, not making eye contact and wonder why society finds it difficult to relate to one another. There needs to be a shift.
Circle of Solace
I will be holding a free, online gathering circle called Circle of Solace for my Substack community on:
Friday 28th March at 7-8pm GMT.
That beautiful hour together will bring peace, compassion, connection and acceptance. It will be part of a global movement of circles being held on this weekend (One Sacred Circle with Sister Stories) and the ripples of the circle energy will be connected far and wide.
Please direct message me if you have any questions or would like to book a place. There are a few spaces left and I would love you to join us. There will be no charge for this offering but if you feel you would like to donate to a charity of your choice in recognition of our gathering, I’m sure they would be most grateful. Dx
You capture the beauty of nature so well with your words and the feelings evoked as I read. The geometry of nature is beautiful - you have reminded us to take that moment to look at the beauty around us. Powerful as always, @Daisy R. Birchwood
